Not, How Did He Die, But How Did He Live? May 23, 2008

I try to keep things light hearted here on my blog but I hope you’ll indulge me just this once while I mourn the loss of one of my favorite writers. One of the biggest literary influences on my life passed away yesterday, Robert Lynne Asprin. I’m sure most of you have never heard of Mr. Asprin but he wrote the Myth fantasy series starting in 1978. The first book Another Fine Myth was given to me when I was 13 and I read it in a day. It mixed humor with fantasy and the quotes at the beginning of each chapter were always memorable. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read his books or how many copies I’ve purchased over the years.

Mr. Asprin made me want to write, he made me want to make people laugh and want more of my words. His stories about a misfit magician and his “demon” mentor made countless days pass by quickly and long trips on the road fly by.

If your interested in the Myth series you can learn more here or here.

I haven’t heard of Asprin but I think I’ll check out Another Fine Myth.
I’ve been looking for a good read lately, Thanks Dan.

I hope you like his work Josh, like I said they were a huge influence on me when I was younger.

I am familiar with Mr. Asprin but I wasn’t aware of his passing. I’m sorry for the loss of one of your favorites.
Thanks for adding me to your blogroll!

Thanks Bill, from everything I’ve read his death was pretty sudden, they found him on his couch with a book in his hand and were unable to revive him.

And I was happy to add you, I’ve been reading your stuff for a while just never commented.
